A total of $17.7 million in prizes were claimed this week by NCEL players. The biggest win came to Phylllis Falcone of Stallings who plans to use the $255,597 Cash 5 jackpot to take a dream vacation. “We’ve been wanting to go to Italy for 15 to 20 years,” said Falcone, who retired from her job as a senior paralegal on May 3. “This is the best investment we’ve ever made.”
James Little, a retiree from Greensboro, claimed a $150,000 prize in the Mega Money Multiplier game. “It’s hitting me now,” said Little as he held his check for the first time. “Not bad for a day’s work.”
A Powerball ticket matched all five white balls but not the red Powerball in the May 25 drawing and is worth $1 million. The ticket was sold at Quick N Easy on Burlington Road in Greensboro.
Sticking with Powerball, Bhartiben (Charlotte) and Monali Patel (Hickory) claimed a $10,000 prize from the May 8 drawing. They purchased their ticket at the J R General Store on Tryon Street in Charlotte.
Saturday night’s jackpot is at $40 million if taken as an annuity or $24.9 million if taken as a lump sum.
Two Mega Millions players claimed $10,000 prizes this week. Billy Carter of Asheville bought his winning ticket from the May 28 drawing at the Energy Mart on Long Shoals Road in Arden. The May 24 drawing was lucky for James Shelton of Stumpy Point, who purchased his winning ticket at White’s Shopping Center on U.S. 64 East in Manns Harbor.
This weekend’s Mega Millions players have a chance to win an estimated $30 million jackpot if taken as an annuity or $21.9 million if taken as a lump sum.
