A Powerball ticket sold at the WilcoHess at 6995 Western Boulevard Jacksonville won $1 million on Saturday night. The same Jacksonville store sold a $1 million-winning Powerball ticket last year.

Gregory Wernli of Jacksonville claimed the prize on Monday morning. His win makes him the fifth player in North Carolina to claim $1 million or more playing Powerball in 2013. Wernli had one of 18,102 winning tickets in Saturday’s drawing. In all, Powerball players in North Carolina won a total of $1,134,346.

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is an estimated $60 million if taken as an annuity or $38.9 million if taken as a lump sum.

@ TURBO - The $1 million Powerball ticket sold in Matthews expired without being claimed. We did the best we could to share info with the media and players to try to find the winner.

Now that the $3,000,000 drawing is over from the Holiday Millions (I guess, since there is no news on here), and there are no top prizes left, only 1 $50,000 prize remaining, the game will be ended, right? Other states have pulled this deception, but due to negative reactions because of lawsuits, they stopped the game because all top prizes were gone.

@ LUCKLESS - We responded to the comment you left on the other blog entry and, yes, now that all the top prizes have been won, the game is being ended as we speak (type).

@ PLAYER (L821) - If you take a look at the blog entry, you will see that the ticket was sold at a store in Jacksonville.

@ NAP - As long as the ticketholder is 18+ and bought the ticket legally, he or she doesn't have to be a resident of North Carolina or the United States to win. Someone visiting the U.S. for work or vacation can legally play the lottery here and claim a prize :-)

On 4/09/2013 10:32, Lucke-Zone said

@ SLINGSHOT - After the Lucke-Rewards drawings are held, the winners are notified by the lottery, usually within 48 hours, by e-mail. If you did not receive a message at the e-mail address associated with your Lucke-Zone account within two days after a Lucke-Rewards drawing is held, your entries did not win a prize in that particular drawing.

i got a ? why is it the winners are always on the other side of raleigh and on back to charlotte i think this side over here wilson, edgecombe, nash halifax etc spend just as much money on lottery as everyone else is it true the lottery guy that service the stores told me where the people spend the most money at will have the majority of the winnings do your research and go back and see what im talikng about

@ SEDTRICK1 - You packed a lot of questions into your comment, so if it's ok with you, we'll take them one at a time. 1) We have winners from all over the state. In fact, this very blog entry is about a $1 million-winning Powerball ticket in Jacksonville, which is as far east of Charlotte or Raleigh as you can go without walking into the ocean. 2) We've had many winners from the counties and areas you listed, including a $74.5 million Powerball jackpot winner from Halifax County.

On 4/12/2013 02:10, Lucke-Zone said

@ SEDTRICK1 - 3) There is no truth to the idea that it's easier to win a lottery prize in certain areas. A player in Charlotte or Raleigh has no advantage over one in Wilson or Halifax (just ask someone from Charlotte or Raleigh). Now, with that said, the odds of winning are going to play out more often in places with larger populations. Again, that doesnt mean those folks or those areas have a BETTER chance to win, it just means more people are TAKING a chance to win. So, over time, you are likely to see winners in proportion with how many chances are taken. This is true in any state that has a lottery. Our games give everyone the same chance to win. Good luck to you.
