Two lucky players from Western North Carolina won big in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing. Both winners collected their prize money on Wednesday at the lottery's regional office in Asheville.
Bruce Gibson of Mars Hill in Madison County matched four white balls and the Mega Ball to win $10,000. He purchased his ticket at the Market Center Express on Stockton Road in Weaverville. Gibson said he was happy when he realized his $1 Quick Pick ticket won the prize.
William Eldreth of Candler in Buncombe County matched four white balls and the Mega Ball as well, but he chose his own numbers. Because Eldreth bought a $2 Megaplier ticket and the Megaplier was four, his ticket won $40,000. Eldreth said he felt blessed to win the prize. He purchased his winning ticket at the Sandhill Grocery on Sandhill Road in Asheville.
The Mega Millions jackpot is one of three that North Carolina players have the chance to win this weekend. Heading into Thursday's drawing, the Carolina Cash 5 jackpot had rolled to $157,000 and could grow larger for upcoming drawings. The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday's drawing stands at an estimated $70 million if taken as an annuity, or $52.2 million as a lump sum. Saturday's Powerball jackpot is even larger at an estimated $100 million if taken as an annuity, or $63.5 million as a lump sum.
As always we wish all our North Carolina players the best of luck!
